Massage therapy helps reduce anxiety, pain, headaches, insomnia and other stress-related symptoms. It also aids in healing, enhances circulation and helps with detoxification.
In a study published in the January 2004 issue of the International Journal of Neurosciences, thirty-six healthy adults received one of three types of basic massage: moderate, light, or vibratory. While anxiety decreased in all three groups, the moderate-pressure massage group saw the biggest decrease in stress levels. Also encouraging is that the massages in the study lasted only ten minutes, proving that even a mini massage works to alleviate stress. Although the researchers did not look at the effects of massage on fertility specifically, they did find that bodywork significantly reduces stress. Because chronic stress may weaken your attempts to conceive, massage plays an important role in taking care of the mind and body.
